How To Increase Students In Tuition Class ( 7 Things To Do )

The most burning question for tuition class owners or home tutors is how to increase students in tuition class or in home tuition?

If you are facing this challenge, this article is for you. As a coaching class owner for a long time, I have also faced this challenge in the past, but I worked smartly, and today I am managing the institute with 11 teachers and 150+ students.

I started home tuition with five students and gradually reached this position, today I will explain how I have achieved this success with the help of some methods that many tutors might not be aware of.

What will you learn from this article?

  • Essential qualities your tuition classes must-have
  • Publicity & marketing of your tuition classes or home tuition
  • Going beyond and adding extra value to the students

I know that you might have a lot of questions like,

How can I increase my tuition?

How do you increase the number of students in tuition center?

How would you increase the strength of students in tuition?

How do you increase the number of students in coaching?

Any tuition class owner or home tutor thinks that just by distributing pamphlets, they will be able to attract students. This is absolutely wrong.

When you think about how to advertise for tuition classes, you will only have ideas for pamphlets, banners, posters, etc. But, this is not enough in today’s competitive world, and you have to think beyond and out of the box to promote your tuition classes.

I am not saying you should not distribute the pamphlets for your tuition class marketing, but if you are only doing this, it will not work in real life.

Some advanced tuition class owners collect a database of parents and send WhatsApp messages for tuition classes to nearby people. This strategy does not work at all, and if you do it repeatedly, people will get irritated and block your numbers, and if you have bad luck, you will have to face legal actions.

Today, the home tuition business is not a low-profile business, but if you have observed, many big companies like Byju’s have also started offline tuition centers across India.

The marketing of your tuition classes is important, but at the same time, you should look for some basic things and proven strategies to increase students in tuition class and grow your tutoring business to the next level.

How to increase students in tuition class

Promotion is an important part of the overall success of tuition classes or home tuition. You can read my step-by-step guide on starting tuition from home, where I have mentioned many strategies to promote tuition classes with real-life pictures and examples.

This article will give you some ignored factors that affect the headcount of your tuition classes.

To increase students in tuition classes, you should also focus on specific points apart from promotional activities.

Use this easy and powerful strategy to quickly increase tuition students without spending any money! Learn this strategy in just 1 day.

Quality Education:

No matter at what level you promote your tuition classes, if your teaching doesn’t add value to students’ academic improvement, it will be super hard to get new students.

You should be very clear that teaching students in tuition are completely different from teaching students in school. You can read my post on how to teach students in tuition to get more ideas.

If you are the only teacher and run your home tuition, you should analyze your teaching skills, and you should implement frequent assessments of all the students regarding their improvement in study.

If your tuition class has more teachers or tutors, you should do the same assessment with your tutors and students.

worksheets for kids

You should understand that parents are looking for improvement in their children, and if you can’t improve them, why will they waste their money on you?

One dissatisfied student or parent will tell 10 people not to enroll in your tuition classes. Always try to improve at your end first, and deliver quality education.

Basic Infrastructure:

This point is especially applicable to small and medium-scale tuition classes; however, you should also consider this point if you are teaching students from your home.

You must have basic and essential facilities in your tuition class like,

Drinking Water: You should arrange clean and pure drinking water for your tuition classes.

A good quality RO is an essential requirement. Suppose you buy a good quality water purifier for your tuition.

In that case, parents and students will notice it , and they will spread the words that you care for the hygiene and health of your students, and this small facility will benefit you over your competitors.

Washroom: The washroom is a must-have facility for any tuition classes.

Cleaning, Hygiene & Sanitation: A hygienic place is always appreciated. Cleaning is cheap but extremely important part of the daily activities of any tuition classes. Always pay attention to the overall cleaning of your tuition classes.

Ventilation: check if the class has proper ventilation or not. Arrange silent exhaust fans and ceiling fans to get fresh air inside the classroom.

Sufficient Lighting: Improve the overall lighting of the classrooms with LED tube lights if possible, and it is not so costly.

Teaching equipment: Blackboard, benches, chairs, tables, carpets, etc., should be in good condition for students to use. Smart classes are just an additional facility but are NOT essential to have. For example, you should have quality study chairs with writing pad instead of cheap plastic chairs.

These facilities are essential, and if your tuition class doesn’t have them or is in poor conditions, this might be a red flag for new and existing students.

Note: I am not talking about luxurious facilities like air conditioners or CCTV cameras.

Location:

Location is crucial for any tuition class. The preferred locations are near the schools or near the residential areas where fewer competitors have their tuition classes or coaching classes.

If you are teaching younger students from classes 1 to 5, parents will always see the area for their child’s safety. If it is a heavy traffic area, parents will be more worried about sending their child to your tuition classes, or they have to spare their time to pick-drop.

Similarly, if you are teaching senior students like classes 8 to 12, parents will be more conscious regarding the locality of your tuition class.

I have seen that some roadside boys are gathering near the tuition classes or schools where young girls are studying.

Check if such people surround your tuition class or not. If you observe these anti-social elements, believe me, you won’t get enough students just because of this.

As you have searched how to increase students in tuition class, I believe that you are already running a tuition class. In that case, you have to take appropriate action against roadside Romeos. If you are starting tuition classes, always observe the area and locality before buying or renting a building for tuition classes.

Publicity & Marketing:

Without promotion, you can’t succeed initially. Once you have gained a reputation in your local area, you will get more students without massive marketing or advertising.

Try to build a reputation offline as well as online.

Promote your tuition classes in both ways that are offline and online. I have explained many offline and online methods to promote home tuition or tuition classes in this blog. You can refer to those articles. However, some of the key platforms where you should build your online presence are,

  • Facebook Pages
  • Instagram
  • LinkedIn
  • Google Business Profile
  • Website
  • Local Event Sponsorship

Now, look at each of the platforms in brief.

Facebook: You can create your Facebook page with your tuition class name and post valuable information regarding your teaching and tuition classes. Remember, you don’t have to ask for tuition in every post. Out of 10 information posts, you can post one post asking for the tuition.

Instagram: Instagram is popular amongst youngsters and females. You can easily create fantastic pictures and infographics with the help of the canva website ( it is free) and attract students by sharing relevant content through photos.

LinkedIn: LinkedIn is a professional networking platform where you can share your credentials and capability to teach students in your location. However, LinkedIn is NOT a social networking platform, and you should not post content that is suitable for social media.

Be professional, share your students’ teaching insights and success stories, and include the USP of your tuition classes.

Google Listing: Google listing is useful for local businesses, and tuition classes fall under the local business category. It would be best if you listed your tuition classes on Google so that parents and students can find you online.

Google listing is the only way to get more and more students without spending a single rupee on advertising. If you can afford only 1.3 rupees/day for the next 90 days, you can learn the exact method that helped many people to get hundreds of students to earn more money with the tuition business. Click here for more details.

Website: If you can afford a budget of around 4 to 5k, you can buy hosting, a domain, and create a WordPress website for your tuition classes.

Today, every business has a website, and it is an essential part of your tuition class promotion and marketing. You can explain the features of your tuition classes in detail, create blog posts ( you are reading right now is a blog post ) that provide in-depth information to the website visitors, and share contact details and your address or location.

You can do many things if you have a website.

However, if you can’t afford this much of a budget, you can create a free website on blogger with a custom domain and get started. Though the blogger platform is free, it has many limitations, and as a beginner, you can’t do much customization with a blogger, and you don’t have complete control over free websites.

I highly recommend you invest some money and go with WordPress websites for tuition classes.

Local Event Sponsorship:

Before I explain this method to you, let me tell you that this method is sometimes costly. But you can do it with a low budget also. You can organize any local event and sponsor it.

For example, medical check-ups, eye check-ups, etc. You can reach out to the hospitals, and they will agree to arrange a camp with you. It is up to you how you can negotiate with the hospital authority and convince them to come to your location.

We had great success with local events, but we went a step ahead and made the event exciting and attractive.

We had organized a quiz competition for classes 5th to 12th ( because we wanted to target only class 5 to class 12 students.)

Students registered on the spot and participated in the quiz, and we announced three winners from each class with low-cost gifts like T-shirts ( our tuition class logo printed), coffee mugs ( logo printed), and schoolbags ( printed with our logo).

All these gifts were low-cost and actually meant for advertising our tuition classes.

We also shared leaflets about our tuition class achievement during the event.

As a result, we were able to attract more than 24 students against 63 students’ participation.

Try this strategy, and you will get a high return on investment.

Local event sponsorship is not always costly. Sometimes, you can do it for absolutely FREE. Be creative and find ideas.

Physical Demo Classes:

Demo classes are one of the most effective ways of tuition class promotion, and unfortunately, many tuition class owners don’t consider it as a promotion strategy.

Here, I am not talking about online demo classes. I am talking about physical or offline demo classes. People are now fed up with the bombarding of free online demo class advertisements on the internet, and it won’t work anymore now.

You should arrange FREE offline demo classes where you can invite parents also if they want to join. You can impress the parents or students with your knowledge, expertise, and presentation skills.

You can advertise for demo classes or share your message for starting tuition classes and demo classes in your local area.

If your demo class is powerful enough to engage parents and students, they will feel that your teaching is excellent and register for your tuition classes.

Always prepare yourself for demo classes well in advance. This demo class must be the highest level of quality education that a student can easily understand and learn 100%.

Spy On Your Competitors:

Check what other tuition classes near your area are doing for promotion, how they get new students, what are their attractions, and do they offer any bonuses, discounts, free material, etc., to the new joiners.

Always try to catch your competitor’s strategies offline and online as well.

And then do better than them. If they are giving a 60-minute class, you can offer 90 minutes. This is just an example, and you can explore your ideas.

If you are worried about how to attract students for coaching classes, all the above-mentioned strategies are proven, tried, and tested to attract more students.

You can also take professional help and hire freelancers to create attractive tuition posters and get more tuition inquiries.

Conclusion on how to increase students in tuition class:

If you check and follow the above things for your tuition classes, I guarantee you that you will never have to worry about how to increase students in tuition class, and you will get new students consistently.

I have explained many advertising strategies for home tuition and tuition classes in this blog. You can refer to all articles under the “promotion and marketing” category of this blog.

There are certain advanced marketing strategies that not everyone knows about, and you have a better chance to grow your tuition classes faster than your competitors.

Keep reading this blog, and you will never need to read anything else on the internet as far as the tuition business is concerned.

  2. Sir, We are running a Tuition Centre in Nagercoil. We have a major challenge in improving the strength which stands at slightly less than 30. We have also employed Digital Marketing Company to improve our visibility and I am confident that they will do their best. In the meanwhile, we are also trying our best through posters, banners, pamphlets, Diwali Gifts etc. but it doesn’t work. I have worked with big companies like Tatas, Godrej etc. and I have the professional background and my wife had worked as teacher/ principal in leading schools in Mumbai for over 30 years. Unfortunately, many of the students are not having an inclination to learn and more specifically understand the subject but prefer to “mug-up” including Maths because, in the schools also they train the students in this way. I am really looking for a break-through; request you to kindly guide. Thanks and Best Regards,

    • Thank you, Mr. Hariharan, for asking an interesting question, and sorry for being late in reply due to the festive season.
Let me answer your question one by one.
Improving the strength of students requires a systematic approach, as in today’s cut-throat competition; relying on one method is not enough. You need to deploy inbound and outbound strategies for your tuition class. Only print advertising will not help you much.
Also, you haven’t mentioned what exactly you mean by digital marketing. Digital marketing is a vast subject and for tutoring businesses choosing the best and appropriate digital marketing method will save you money and time. If you seek help, I can refer my friend, who is a digital marketer and a professional engineer who has worked with giant organizations in India. Today, he owns a local business consultancy firm. You can fill out the contact us form at the website’s top or from here, and I will send you more details. I am not asking you to hire him, but I just want you to refer him to check whether you are doing the right things.
Regarding mug-up, you can only avoid it partially because, at the end of the year, parents want percentage, NOT subject understanding.
I have around 162 students as of date and agree with you on the mug-up thought process. However, as per my friend’s suggestion, I have made some changes to the physical advertisement and introduced a screening process to avoid unrealistic expectations from the parents. That helped me to build more authority and, most importantly, less pressure on my teachers to join the rat race with parents. I regularly arrange a special class for parents and students for various career opportunities as most parents think that higher marks mean medical or engineering admission. But there are many lucrative career options that parents never heard of. This session helps parents to understand the different career perspectives, and they fall less into the rat race.
      I hope this helps.
      Best,
      Shweta Singh
